NXT and WWE fans last week were shocked when Samoa Joe defeated Finn Balor for the NXT Championship at a house show in Lowell, Massachusetts, on Thursday night.

The result originally made fans think it was just a joke, but now we’ve entered this week with Joe still with the title, the WWE Universe are starting to think of the repercussions from the event.

One of these is that Balor could be called up to the main roster anytime soon now that he no longer has the championship. Another is a possible rematch between the two in the future so that the Irishman has a chance to win the title back.

According to NoDQ: “While WWE has been planning for Finn Balor to drop the NXT Championship title to Samoa Joe for some time now, the plan is for their rematch to take place at the NXT Takeover event on June 8th.

“WWE holds the next set of NXT TV tapings next Thursday from Full Sail University, so the company will probably set up some angle between the two, which will ultimately lead to their rematch.”

Also, Cageside Seats have speculated there could be a very big stipulation on the match as well, which could make the clash very interesting to watch.

Their report said: “While there are still rumors of Finn Balor getting called up to the main roster ASAP, there are some other rumors going around that they could be building to a cage match at the next Takeover event between Balor and Samoa Joe.”

A cage match between Samoa Joe and Finn Balor for the NXT Championship would be an epic clash. It would be the third time the two have met at a TakeOver event for the title after Balor defeated Joe earlier this year at NXT TakeOver: Dallas on WrestleMania weekend, and he also won when the two faced at NXT TakeOver: London last December.

It could be another cracking main event once more at a TakeOver event, after the Bayley vs Sasha Banks 30-minute Iron Man match for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT TakeOver: Respect last October, and the ladder match between Balor and Kevin Owens at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn last August.

This could be the final time the two meet before one of them makes the jump to the main roster if they haven’t already, similar to what happened between Balor and Owens at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn before the latter became a full-time member of the main roster.

If it is the final meeting between the two in NXT, hopefully it will be a great match once more to give the two stars the send-off they deserve and to give the fans a real treat as well.
