Tottenham know they must keep hold of Harry Kane if they are to become regular title contenders.

Their star man has 24 goals so far this season, and that has not gone unnoticed by the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United.

But as some of Europe’s biggest clubs prepare to ramp up their interest in the 22-year-old, Spurs legend Ledley King has insisted they will not be able to tempt the striker for one reason – he simply loves playing for Tottenham.

Speaking to the London Evening Standard, King drew parallels between himself and the Lilywhites’ man-of-the-moment, who grew up in Chigwell, the largely Spurs-supporting area of Essex.

“I had an affiliation with the club as I came through the ranks and I think Harry has the same feeling”, he said.

“Harry wants to win something at this club, he wants to take this club to the next level and he is very close to doing it.”

“It’s something money can’t buy.”

King worked his way up at Spurs to become one of their most respected defenders in decades, but he had some of the same struggles as Kane in his early days.

For King, it was Sol Campbell and Gary Doherty that initially kept him from making a breakthrough into the first team, and fellow Academy product Kane experienced a similarly frustrating early start until Mauricio Pochettino showed enough faith to give him a start.

If Kane does decide to stay because of his links to the north London club, then not only can he gain legendary status, but Mauricio Pochettino will have been rewarded for trusting in young English players, a strategy that has been widely praised this season.

Kane has spearheaded a team including Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker, while Tom Carroll, Ryan Mason, and Josh Onomah have also come up from the Academy.

Spurs will no doubt be offered staggering amounts of money for their prize asset, but as Kane has never expressed a desire to leave, Spurs can break from their recent history and hold onto their main players.

And it is then that they will be able to establish themselves as long-term title hopefuls.
