Everton have decided to take action against Ramiro Funes Mori for his tackle on Liverpool striker Divock Origi, which resulted in the defender receiving a straight red card.
This is despite the fact Funes Mori issued a public apology for the incident via Instagram on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Daily Mail, Funes Mori will be docked a week’s wages for his reckless challenge on the Belgium international.
Liverpool are still waiting to discover the full extent of Origi’s injury – the 21-year-old was stretchered off the pitch following the challenge – but it’s been reported, per the Guardian, that the forward faces four to six weeks out with ankle ligament damage.
Jurgen Klopp, who said Origi’s injury had cast a “big shadow” over Liverpool’s 4-0 win in the Merseyside derby, is expected to reveal whether or not this is the case in his weekly press conference on Friday afternoon.
