Liverpool fans have today been shocked by the news that centre-back Mamadou Sakho is under investigation by UEFA after he failed a drugs tests.

The incident occurred following the Reds’ Europa League round of 16 second-leg clash with bitter rivals Manchester United.

The defender is not officially suspended by the club but a decision has been taken by the powers that be – and the player – that he will not be available for selection until the matter has been dealt with.

As more information becomes available on the incident, it is believed the banned element found in the French international’s sample was a fat-burning substance.

That is according to the Associated Press’ global football writer Rob Harris, who has been providing information on Sakho’s situation via Twitter.

His teammate Kolo Toure served a six-month ban in 2011 for a similar offence and the findings put the defender’s Euro 2016 chances in serious jeopardy.

If he is indeed suspended, Sakho will be a big loss for the Reds as they look to reach the Champions League via Europe’s secondary competition.

According to Harris, the 26-year-old is yet to request that his B sample be tested by European football’s governing body.

NOT SELECTED

Jurgen Klopp has made six changes to the side that dismantled local rivals Everton 4-0 at on Wednesday, and the most notable absence is Sakho.

  1. Definitely believe that which you said. Your favorite justification appeared to
be on the web the easiest thing to take note of.
I say to you, I certainly get annoyed at the same time as
people consider issues that they just don’t understand about.
You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the whole thing with no
need side-effects , people can take a signal.
Will probably be back to get more. Thank you
