Diego Simeone was sent to the stands during Atletico Madrid’s La Liga match against Malaga on Saturday evening after a ball was thrown in an apparent bid to prevent a counter-attack.
With the scores tied at 0-0, Malaga took a quick throw-in during first-half stoppage time in the hope of catching Atletico napping.
However, someone from the Atletico bench – it’s currently unclear if Simeone was the man responsible – threw a ball onto the pitch in a bid to prevent Malaga’s attack.
Because Simeone was the highest-ranked member of the Atletico bench, it was the Argentine coach who was sent to the stands.
Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague revealed after the match that a similar incident had resulted in an eight-match ban for the culprit.
